Wanted: Rocky Garden Tips!

I'd love to hear from others on how they cope with Appalachian soils, rocks, and weather--the best plants, amendments, and so on.

Welcome To Blue Ridge Mountain Garden Blog!

While I moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains north of Atlanta 4 years ago, I have treasured rose rustling in Texas and hoisting water beauties from the lakes of Michigan equally. This blog will chronicle successes and failures, bugs, birds, butterflies, and my attempt at a Seattle-type Zen garden (don't ask).

Mountain gardening's a challenge to keep from killing oneself, among other things.  I love to work in the rain & slipping & sliding on slick slopes in Georgia's proven tough--hauling in Japanese maples or mulch or Hinoki cypress to install on a near-vertical slope with no 911 near by.

My grandchildren put up with my raves about hostas, Goshiki false hollies, and butterfly Japanese maples and even gifted me with a lobster trap & delightful pink flamingo from the Keys for my sedum corner.

The rallying cry of "Upward & Onward" not only applies to the US Marines, but to truculent grandmas who just won't give up on the red Blue Ridge clay & rocky substrata.
